Brennhafen, Kupferhöhen
Twenty-one islands.
One breath.
Below Brennhafen lies the Grey Sea. Nothing but clouds as far as the eye can see. Twenty-one islands hang above it. Hot steam pulses through their stone. A ring of copper pipes connects their works and keeps them in the air.
Then the rhythm falters.
In Brennhafen, Ilka knows every sound the boilers make. She can hear a valve open and feel steam rush through the pipes beneath her feet. One evening, the familiar beat falls away. At the edge of the city, the first lights go out.
What keeps you aloft when the pressure falls?
